Despite fielding a small contingent of competitors, the Augustana men's and women's track and field teams enjoyed a lot of success at the SDSU Twilight Meet held at the Brookings Sports Complex in Brookings, S.D.
The Augustana men had only 2 competitors, but both turned in top 5 finishes.
Paul Mallory won the 400-meter hurdles in a winning time of 56.88 seconds, while
Nathaniel Petrich was fifth in the 1500 in 4:13.54.
On the women's side, 7 Vikings were in action and they combined for 3 runner-up finishes and a total of 5 top 5 finishes.
On the track,
Meagan Grandgenett and
Annaliese Pepin finished second in the hurdles. Grandgenett was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.76, while Pepin had a time of 1:04.33 in the 400-meter hurdles.
The remaining second-place finish came from
Bobbi Jo Buyck in the pole vault. Buyck cleared 11-05.75 to claim runner-up honors. However, she missed on all 3 of her attempts at 11-11.75, which is the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying height.
In the throws,
Noel Bentele and
Rachel Christiansen each turned in a top 5 performance. Bentele was third in the hammer with a mark of 149-03.0, while Christiansen had a personal-best toss of 133-09.0 to finish fifth in the discus.
This weekend, Augustana will send a handful of competitors to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays. The remainder of the teams will remain in town for the University of Sioux Falls Invitational.
