Augustana Track and Field Have Solid Showing at 4th Annual Vance Butler Invite

The Augustana Track and Field team hosted its 4th annual Vance Butler Invite Friday at the Sanford Health Sports Complex in Sioux Falls.

In the event, which featured student athletes from 11 different schools, the Vikings had several athletes finish in the top five in the both the field and running events.

Bobbi Jo Buyck raised the bar in the women's pole vault by setting a new school record with a 3.35 meter vault to finish third in the event.

Noel Bentele finished in fourth in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.23 meters and took sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 38.19 meters. Rachel Christiansen finished in eight in the hammer throw with a throw of 36.36. 

Aaron Jung and Tyler Lynch both had impressive days in the men's shot put, finishing second and third in the event. Jung had a best throw of 15.61 meters, while Lynch finished at 14.69 meters.

Lynch also had a third place finish in the discus, with a throw of 42.62 meters.

In the running events, Travis Beniak finished second in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:46.30, while Molly Clark finished in third place in the women's event with a time of 11:25.75.

Paul Mallory had a pair of fourth place finishes in both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles. In the 110, Mallory finished with a time of 15.66 and in the 400 he ran a time of 56.66.

Augustana will now travel to St. Peter, Minn. to participate in the Lee Krough Invite on Friday, April 10.
