Augustana had 3 golfers set or match their season-best rounds of the year to put them in the top 10 on the individual leaderboard as the Vikings sit in second place after the first day of competition at the Augustana Spring Invitational, held Thursday at Prairie Green Golf Course in Sioux Falls.
The 36-hole tournament concludes on Friday with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. at Brookings Country Club in Brookings, S.D.
The Vikings shot a 320 as a team to gain second place by 2 shots ahead of Upper Iowa, which carded a 322. Concordia University, St. Paul, holds the first-round lead after shooting a 308. The Golden Bears will take a 12-stroke lead into the final round. Rounding out the team standings are Minnesota State University, Mankato, in fourth place at 339 and Southwest Minnesota State in fifth place at 345.
Pacing the Vikings were

Kelly Lauer and
Molly Leland. Espeland matched her season-best score with a 76 on Thursday. She is tied for second place in the individual standings along with Concordia's Anne Martin. Those 2 players are 3 shots behind first-round leader Molly Noser of CU, who shot a 73.
Lauer is in fifth place after firing a season-low 78, while Leland, who is competing as an individual, carded an 81, to match her best round of the year. Leland is in 10th place individually.
