Beniak, Clark Win 3,000 Meter Steeplechase at Dakota Relays

The Augustana track and field teams placed nine competitors in the top five of their respective events at this weekend's Dakota Relays held at Howard Wood Field.

Travis Beniak and Molly Clark brought home the only first place finishes for the Vikings by winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Beniak ran the race in 9:30.14 and also took eighth place in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:01.94.

Other men's top five finishers were Aaron Jung and Paul Mallory. Jung took second place in the shot put by throwing 14.66 meters. Mallory finished in fifth in the 110 meter low hurdles with a time of 15.33.

Clark won the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase in 10:54.54, and is joined by four other top five finishers. Bobbi Jo Buyck took second place in the pole vault with a vault of 3.50 meters. Kelly Kougl finished in second place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:17.37 and also finished ninth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:53.62.

LeAnn Severson also placed in the 800 meter run finishing just behind Kougl with a time of 2:17.85. Miranda Wagner finished in fourth place in the 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:11.95 and Melissa Jackson rounded out the list with a fifth place finish in the women's javelin. Jackson threw 28.93 meters.

The Vikings will compete next weekend in the NSIC Outdoor Championships in Wayne, Neb.
