Emily Johnson helped the Augustana women's tennis team cap a strong weekend by winning her singles flight at the Pierre Invitational Sunday in Pierre, S.D.
Johnson won the Flight 3 singles title by defeating Katie Elifson of South Dakota State 6-1, 6-4.
The Vikings had two other finalists,
Brittany Gaster in Flight 1 singles and
Amber Baustian in Flight 4 singles. However, both of those players lost their matches on Sunday. Gaster dropped a 3-set decision to Jenny Lewellen of Sioux Falls by scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, while Baustian lost 6-4, 6-1 to Bethany Goeden of South Dakota State.
Two Vikings earned fifth-place finishes. In Flight 1 singles,
Michelle Wadas edged USF's Laura Osterloo 10-7, while
Gabrielle Kachena defeated Cara Cosgrove 10-4 in Flight 4 singles.
In Flight 3 singles,
Adrienne Conley finished sixth as she lost 10-5 to North Dakota's Chelsey Galipeau.
Augustana's
Jill Hagestuen and
Hannah Gebauer were scheduled to face each other Sunday in Flight 2 singles consolation finals match, but the match was not played because they are teammates. They ended up tying for fifth place.
