Augustana breezes past Gustavus Adolphus

- Augustana had four players score in double-figures to cruise to a 93-57 victory over Division III Gustavus Adolphus Saturday afternoon in Sioux Falls.  

Augustana (3-0) remains undefeated. Gustavus Adolphus is now 1-2.

Megan Doyle scored a game-high 21 points and led both teams in rebounds with seven.

Along with Doyle in double-figures was Alex Feeney (14), Lydia Nelson (12) and Tessa Wilka (11).

The Vikings started the game ona  6-0 run off a pair of free throws by Molly Hayes and layups by Doyle and Feeney gave.

Doyle hit a 3-pointer at 14:31 to put the Vikings up 15-4 and give Augustana its first double digit lead of the contest.

Augustana's lead continued to increase until the Gusties cut it to three points at 10:27 by draining back-to-back 3-pointers. GAC's effort to take the lead would fall short however, as Doyle eased in a layup with just under a minute left in the period to close the half ahead 44-30.

The Vikings held GAC scoreless for a little over two minutes to start the second half, while Augustana advanced to a 19-point lead.

Augustana continued its edge over the Gusties with a 15-point run midway through the half. Kristi Board, Doyle and Liz Helsper all hit 3-pointers for the Vikings in the run.

With 1:19 left in the game the Vikings had a 38-point lead, their largest of the game.

Both teams shot well from the line. GAC went 16 of 19. Augustana was 10 of 12.

GAC was held to a 33.3 field goal percentage and was lead in scoring by Abby Rothenbuehler who had 12 points.

Augustana shot 52.9 from the field.

The Vikings travel to Bayamon, Puerto Rico, Nov. 23 to 26 for a series of three games.
