TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona shot 45.8 percent from the field to hand Augustana a 70-59 exhibition loss Sunday night in front of nearly 12,000 fans in Tucson, Ariz.
Cameron McCaffrey scored a game-high 20 points for the Vikings, hitting four 3-pointers and finishing 7 of 11 from the floor.
Cody Schilling was also in double figures with 12 points.
The Wildcats got 19 points and a game-high six rebounds from Derrick Williams in the win.
It was the second straight season the two programs have met in an exhibition; Arizona topped Augustana 92-76 last season.
Augustana trailed by just seven points at halftime--thanks in large part to 10 first-half points from McCaffrey.
Arizona, though, never trailed in the game. The Wildcats held as larges as a 10-point lead late in the first half. But buckets from
Adam Peterka, Schilling and McCaffrey prior to the break trimmed the deficit to seven.
The Vikings lingered in the second half. Arizona used a 5-0 run to take a 13-point lead at 51-38 with just more than 10 minutes left, but
Nathan Truex slashed the difference to 10 with a 3-pointer a minute later.
Augustana was forced to work from a double-digit deficit for the remainder of the contest. Arizona took as large as a 14-point lead just before the end of regulation.
Chad Hettermann and
Trevor Hass each grabbed four rebounds for the Vikings. McCaffrey also handed out three assists.
The Pac-10 Wildcats held a seven rebound edge over the Vikings, bettering Augustana 39-32.
Augustana opens the regular season this Saturday, hosting Jamestown (N.D.) at 5:30 p.m.
