The Augustana women's tennis team continued its hot start to the spring season by routing Division I South Dakota State 8-1 Friday night at Sioux Empire Fitness.
The Vikings improved to 3-0 on the season with the win, while the Jackrabbits fell to 3-1 with their first loss of the season.
Augustana won all six singles matches and two out of the three doubles matches. All six singles victories came in straight sets. The tightest match came at No. 2 singles where Augustana's
Michelle Wadas won a first-set tiebreaker en route to a 7-6 (5), 6-2 win over Megan McDougall.
Brittany Gaster picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win over SDSU's Bryna Nasenbeny at No. 1 singles, while
Hannah Gebauer cruised past Caitlin Brannen 6-3, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, the Vikings'
Jill Hagestuen defeated Carrie Jensen 6-3, 6-3 and
Adrienne Conley rolled past Katie Elifson 6-2, 6-1. Augie's
Emily Johnson completed the sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Nellie Bloomberg at No. 6 singles.
The doubles matches were much closer. At No. 1 doubles, Gaster and Conley edged Nasenbeny and Bethany Goeden 8-5, while Wadas and Gebauer squeaked by McDougall and Brannen 8-6. SDSU's only win came at No. 3 doubles where Jansen and Bloomberg downed Hagestuen and Johnson 8-6.
Augustana is back in action on Sunday when the Mavericks travel to Mankato, Minn., to take on Minnesota State University, Mankato, in a 10:30 a.m. dual.
