The Augustana women's tennis team picked up a big Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win by defeating Minnesota State University, Mankato, 5-4, Sunday in Mankato, Minn.
The Vikings improved to 4-0 overall and remained unbeaten in NSIC play with a 3-0 record. Minnesota State entered the dual ranked fifth in the region but slipped to 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC.
Each team won three singles matches, but the difference came in doubles where the Vikings won two of the three matches. At No. 2 doubles, freshmen
Michelle Wadas and
Hannah Gebauer edged MSU's Paige Burke and Heather Johnson 8-5. Then at No. 3 doubles, Augie's
Jill Hagestuen and
Emily Johnson defeated Cassandra Anderson and Tegan Bakke 8-3.
Wadas also was victorious in singles play as she defeated Kathryn Gavin 7-5, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. Also earning wins were
Brittany Gaster at No. 1 and
Adrienne Conley at No. 5. Gaster downed Sarah Madigan 6-1, 6-2 while Conley slipped past Anderson 6-2, 7-6 (5).
The Vikings are off now until March 6 when they travel to Duluth, Minn., to face Minnesota Duluth and Minnesota, Crookston.
