Three Augustana men's basketball players have earned spots on the 2009-10 All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Teams, the NSIC office announced. Cody Schilling landed a spot on the first team, while David Foster and Cameron McCaffrey were named to the second team. In addition, McCaffrey was chosen as the Freshman of the Year.

McCaffrey is the second consecutive Viking to earn Freshman of the Year honors. Schilling won the award in 2008-09, which happens to be the first year the NSIC instituted the award.

Schilling, a sophomore from Ellsworth, Minn., avoided the proverbial sophomore slump this season. The only sophomore named to the all-conference first team, Schilling started every game this season and is averaging 14.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, both team highs. He put together eight 20-point performances this season and is second on the club in assists with 66. In NSIC play, Schilling ranked fourth in free throw percentage at 87.5 percent (98-for-112).

Foster, a senior from Big Timber, Mont., is a repeat selection to the all-conference second team. A 2007-08 All-North Central Conference selection, Foster is third on the team in scoring at 12.6 points per game. He also leads the team in 3-pointers with 61. In the final NSIC statistics, Foster was tied for sixth in 3-pointers made per game, sinking 2.35 per contest. This season he became the 26th player in school history to score 1,000 career points. He currently stands in 19th place with 1,145 points. In addition, he is second on the school's career 3-point chart with 188 treys.

McCaffrey made a big splash in the NSIC this season. The freshman from Hillsboro, Ore., is second on the club in scoring, averaging 12.8 points per game in addition to ranking second in 3-pointers with 46 and third in assists with 52. He accumulated these stats while coming off the bench and averaging 19.8 minutes per game.

McCaffrey,  the only freshman named to either the first or second team, also made two of the biggest baskets of the season for the Vikings. He hit an off-balance, 15-foot jumper with 0.3 seconds left to lift the Vikings to an 82-81 win over Winona State on February 13. Then he hit a baseline jumper with 9 seconds on the clock to propel Augie to a 72-71 victory over fifth-ranked Minnesota State University, Mankato.

The 15th-ranked Vikings are 22-6 on the season and finished in third place in the NSIC standings with a 15-5 league record. The Vikings are idle this weekend. They will compete in the NCAA Division II Central Regional Tournament next week, beginning Saturday, March 13. Pairings and site for the tournament will be announced Sunday at 8 p.m. CDT.
