The Augustana women's tennis team remained undefeated on the season as the Vikings swept a pair of duals Saturday in Duluth, Minn. The Vikings defeated Minnesota Duluth 9-0 and Minnesota, Crookston 8-0.
Augustana, ranked 10th in this week's Central Region rankings, improved to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The UMD dual was a conference dual, while the UMC dual was a non-conference contest.
Against Minnesota Duluth, Augustana took a 3-0 lead by winning three close doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Augie's tandem of Brittany Gaster and Adrienne Conley edged UMD's Carrie Dahlman and Katie Bolf 8-6. The Vikings' No. 2 team of Michelle Wadas and Hannah Gebauer claimed an 8-6 win over Brittany Thompson and Lyndsey Seaver. Finally, the Vikings' No. 3 pair of Amber Baustian and Alison Broadwell squeaked past Jessica Stensrud and Anna Witty 9-8. Baustian and Broadwell won the tiebreaker by a score of 7-5.
Augustana had an easier time in the singles matches, winning all six matches in straight sets.
The Vikings easily won the dual againt Minnesota, Crookston. In four of the singles matches, the Vikings surrendered only 2 games. At No. 1 singles, Gaster downed Cassie Jarvis 6-1, 6-2. At No. 6 singles, Broadwell rallied from a 1-set deficit to defeat Missy Mackedanz 6-7 (4), 6-4, 10-5.
Augustana will now prepare for its Spring trip to Orlando, Fla., where the Vikings will play five duals from March 14-18.
