Augustana Basketball Signs Texas Standout

Jason Pospichal of Lewisville, Texas, has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball for the Vikings, head coach Tom Billeter announced today.

The 6-2, 170 pound shooting guard was a four-year starter and letterwinner at Prestonwood Christian HS. As a senior, he led the Lions to a Texas 5A State Championship with a record of 35-3. He also averaged 13.1 points, 3.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.7 rebounds per game.

Pospichal was named to the All-Texas First Team as well as named the District 1 5A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior

His team was 52-4 in district play during his four years on varsity and he is a three-time all-district performer in addition to being named Underclassman of the Year as a freshman. He was also a team captain for three years.

“We felt shooting was an area we needed to recruit with the departure of Dave Foster,” Billeter said. “Jason is as good a shooter as there is in the country. He has incredible range and really knows how to play. Jason is not only a very good outside shooter but also a playmaker and great teammate. He has done nothing but win during his four years at Prestonwood Christian. He comes from a tremendous basketball family as his father played at Florida Southern and coached both college and junior college for over 20 years”

Pospichal also shot 41 percent from behind the arc as a senior, making a PCA school-record 123 3-pointers. He has tallied 341 threes in his career. Not only did his dad play at Florida Southern, but Pospichal's mom played at Wake Forest.

“We are very excited with Jason's acceptance of our scholarship,” Billeter said. “We know he will not only be a great player on the floor but a terrific representative of our program off the court as well.”
