NSIC / U.S. Bank All-Sports Award full release from the NSIC office
Augustana College finished in second place in the 2009-10 NSIC / U.S. Bank All-Sports Award competition, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference office announced today. The Vikings also finished in second place in 2008-09, their inaugural season in the conference.
Augustana scored 59 points during the spring sports season, which consisted of baseball, softball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's outdoor track and field and women's tennis. The Vikings, who were in second place following the winter season standings, finished with 147.5 points, just five points behind Minnesota State University, Mankato, who won the All-Sports Award with 152.5 points.
Augustana won six NSIC titles during the 2009-10 academic year, the most by any NSIC member. The Vikings won championships in men and women's cross country, women's golf, women's indoor track and field, softball and women's tennis.
"This accomplishment is a credit to the high quality student-athletes and coaches we have in our Augustana family," athletic director
Bill Gross said. "We are pleased to be reaching our stated strategic plan goal of competing at the highest levels in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA Division II."
Points for the All-Sports Award were awarded by giving the winner of each title in a conference-sponsored championship points totaling the number of teams sponsoring that sport plus one. The next place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties at any level shall result in the totaling of points and distributed equally. The points for NSIC indoor and outdoor track and field are divided by two.
