Augustana Basketball Announces 2010 Team Award Winners

The Augustana basketball team capped its season off with a team banquet Saturday night, where head coach Tom Billeter announced the 2010 team award winners.

Freshman Cameron McCaffrey was named NSIC Freshman of the Year, to the All-NSIC Second Team, and to the Division II Bulletin All-Freshman Team. McCaffrey averaged 12.9 points points per game while shooting 48 percent from the field and 43 percent from beind the arc.

Sophomore Derrick De Zeeuw was named Most Improved Player and also won the Best Field Goal Percentage Award. He more than doubled his minutes played, rebounds, and points from his freshman campaign. DeZeeuw shot 69.7 percent from the field and led the team in blocked shots.

Sophomore Cody Schilling won the Leading Scorer and Leading Rebounder titles. Schilling scored an impressive 474 points and grabbed 167 rebounds. He was named to the NSIC All-Conference First Team, NCAA Central Region First Team and was Division II Bulletin All-American Honorable Mention.

Junior Chad Hettermann won the Hustle Award. Hettermann played in 30 games, averaging 12 minutes a game while battling injuries all year.

Junior Adam Peterka won the Coaches Award. The Coaches Award is the only award voted on by the coaching staff and is given to the player who best represents the Augustana Basketball Program.

Senior Elliot Thomas won the Best Free Throw Percentage Award after shooting 94.3 percent this season. The senior only missed two free throws all year.

Senior Jordan Dalton won the Team Captain Award, the Defensive Award, and the Assists Leader Award. Dalton led the team with 154 assists and 58 steals.

David Foster won the team's Most Valuable Player Award. Foster averaged 13.2 points per game while shooting 46 percent from 3-point range. The senior was named to the All-NSIC Second Team for the second year in a row.
