The Augustana women's tennis team won its first round match-up at the NCAA Central Region Championships Friday in Kearney, Neb. Augie beat conference-foe Upper Iowa 5-2.
The Vikings (21-1) got off to a good start, winning two of the three doubles competitions. The No. 2 doubles pair of
Michelle Wadas and
Hannah Gebauer knocked off Mallery Cox and Kelsey Montgomery 8-2.
Also winning was the No. 3 pair of
Emily Johnson and
Gabrielle Kachena, who took down Nicole Henry and Jennah Smith 8-1.
In singles action, Wadas came through again, defeating Mallery Cox 6-1, 6-4 in No. 3 singles. At No. 5 singles,
Emily Johnson took down Jennah Smith 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles while
Adrienne Conley defeated Nicole Henry 7-5, 6-0.
The Vikings will play again tomorrow against No. 1 seed Nebraska-Kearney at noon.
