Augie Tennis Ends Season with 5-1 Loss to Nebraska-Kearney

The Augustana women's tennis team saw its season come to an end Saturday in Kearney, Neb. The Vikings fell 5-1 to the host school of Nebraska-Kearney, who now advances to the NCAA Championships.
 
Augie got into trouble early, winning only one of the three doubles matches. The No. 3 doubles pair of Gabrielle Kachena and Emily Johnson defeated Claire Bryan and Melissa Lyster, 8-5.
 
Katie Outhwaite of UNK defeated Hannah Gebauer 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles while Mizuki Takahashi beat Michelle Wadas 6-3, 6-2.
 
At No. 5 singles, Nickola Messbarger took down Johnson in a tight 7-5, 6-4 match.
 
All of the other singles matches went unfinished.

"It was a tough way to end a season," head coach Marc Kurtz said. "Our girls played hard and we had a lot of close matches. Things just didn't go our way today."
 
The Vikings end the season 21-2.
