BUMP, SET, HIKE HOMEPAGE
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana football and volleyball programs have teamed up for “Bump, Set, Hike” to raise awareness for breast cancer at Saturday's football game and Tuesday's volleyball match. Both teams will recognize a group of breast-cancer survivors.
Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United State and affects one in eight women each year. More than 1,000 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
The Viking volleyball program started its “Dig Pink” night four years ago increase awareness about breast cancer. The event not only honored those who had lost their battle with breast cancer but also recognized those who still fight the disease. The first “Dig Pink” event raised more than $3,500 for the Side-Out Foundation, a national breast cancer organization dedicated to the progression of research and development of new treatments. The following two years, the Augustana volleyball program continued to raise awareness and fund charitable donations towards the Side-Out Foundation.
Inspired by so many women in the community battling this disease, Augustana football began its own effort tabbed “Tackle Pink.” It also was successful in raising money for the cause.
This year, Augustana volleyball and football joined forces for “Bump, Set, Hike.” By coming together, the two programs have partnered with the Sanford Breast Health Institute to keep the dollars raised by this event local.
