LEARFIELD SPORTS DIRECTORS' CUP STANDINGS
CLEVELAND – Augustana is ranked eighth in the latest fall Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings released Thursday by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.
Augustana has 172 points. The Viking women's cross country team, which won the national championship, secured 100 points, while the men's cross country team's sixth-place national finish accounted for the other 72.
Grand Valley State leads the standings with 260 points.
The rankings include national finishes in women's cross country, men's cross country, women's field hockey, women's soccer, men's soccer and volleyball.
The final fall standings will be released Dec. 21.
A year ago, Augustana finished third in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, marking a program best.
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup is a program that honors institutions maintaining a broad-based program and celebrates those programs achieving success in many sports, both men's and women's. Beginning in 1993-94 for Division I by NACDA and
USA Today, it was expanded in 1995-96 to include Division II, III and the NAIA. Each institution is awarded points in a predetermined number of sports for men and women.
