Augustana sinks Drury 4-1

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Deryk Marks tossed 8.0 shutout innings and added two hits to lead Augustana past Drury 4-1 Sunday afternoon in Springfield, Mo.

Augustana improves to 6-5, while DU drops to 7-6.

Marks (1-1) allowed just three hits and struckout three en route to his first win of the season. At the dish, the senior finished 2 for 5 and had one RBI.

Drew Heithoff also added an RBI.

The Vikings opened with two runs in the first inning. Nate Baumann led off with a walk, stole second and took third on a Panther error. Marks singled to score Baumann and later scored on a passed ball.

Augustana added two more in the fourth inning after Nate Hewes doubled and eventually scored on a passed ball and Drew Heithoff singled to drive in Baumann.

Bennett Johnson closed out the final inning on the mound. He did give up one run, but the sophomore managed to force a Panther to ground into a double play and recorded one strikeout to secure the Viking win.

DU used five pitchers, and William Landsheft (2-2) took the loss.

Augustana will travel to Cameron on March 21 and 22 for pair of twinbills.
