CLERMONT, Fla. - Augustana defeated Southern Connecticut State 11-3 in five innings in Game 1 and also won 6-3 in Game 2 on Monday in Clermont, Fla.
The Vikings improve to 15-2. SCSU is now 6-5.
Ashley Meyer pitched for the Vikings in Game 1. She totaled six strikeouts in five innings and gave up four hits.
Eleven Vikings had hits during the game, and
Lindsay Spanton led the team with three hits and three RBIs.
Chelsey Durland also had three RBIs.
Augustana earned six runs in the top of the first as
Theresa McMahon,
Jenny Brown,
Elizabeth Murray, Spanton,
Traci Fransen and Durland all reached home.
The Owls then drove in two runs at the bottom of the inning.
A four-run inning at the top of the second put the Vikings ahead 10-2.
Spanton led off batting in the fourth inning and smashed a homerun to conclude Viking scoring.
Chelsey Durland pitched the win for Augustana in Game 2 with five strikeouts and three walks. She allowed four hits.
McMahon and Brown led Augustana with 2 RBIs. Brown also led the Vikings with three hits.
The Owls scored the first two runs of the game at the top of the third.
A triple by Brown then brought in two runs for Augustana.
SCSU went up 3-2 at the top of the fourth, but in Augustana's at bat McMahon hit a sacrifice fly to allow Coufal to score and tie the score 3-3.
In the sixth inning Augustana scored the remaining three runs in the win.
The Vikings' action in Florida ends tomorrow with a 10:30 a.m. game against No. 21 Dowling followed by Merrimack at 12:30 p.m.
