ORLANDO, Fla. - No. 35 Augustana won three straight matches on Day 2 and 3 in Florida, defeating Hamline (8-1), Wisconsin-Oshkosh (9-0) and Colby (6-3).
Augustana improves to 12-2. UW-Oshkosh drops to 7-5 and Colby is now 2-7.
In the Vikings dual against Hamline, Augustana swept doubles play.
Hannah Gebauer and
Katie Jesperson registered an 8-5 victory, while
Emily Johnson and
Gabrielle Kachena won 8-4. At No. 3 doubles were
Jessica Spalding and
Kilee Kading slipping in a 9-7 victory.
Jesperson didn't lose a game at No. 1 singles, defeating Anna Yarbrough 6-0, 6-0. Spalding (No. 5) and
Liz Lewis (No. 6) also defeated their opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Michelle Wadas (6-1, 6-2) at No. 2 and
Jill Hagestuen (6-2, 6-4) at No. 3 also had victories.
Augustana won all three of its doubles matches 8-4 before picking up another six singles wins against UW-Oshkosh.
Spalding had another 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles, while
Liz Lewis (No. 6) and Johnson (No. 4) each posted 6-2, 6-2 victories.
Wadas (No. 2) won 6-4 in the first set against Brianna Theobald and dropped the second set 6-1. She came back and won 10-8 in the third set tie breaker.
Jesperson and Gebauer each cruised to victories at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
Augustana had doubles wins from No. 1 and No. 3 against Colby.
Wadas pulled out another close singles match at No. 2. She won 6-4 in the first set and fell 5-7 in the second. A 10-4 victory in the third set tie breaker sealed the win.
Also winning for the Vikings were Jesperson (No. 1), Gebauer (No. 3) and Conley (No. 6).
Augustana will continue action on its spring trip tomorrow at 10 a.m. against Northwestern Ohio.
