CHADRON, Neb. - Chadron's State Amy Schartz slammed a three-run, walk-off home run to help the Eagles break away from a 6-6 tie and salvage a split with Augustana by winning Game 2 9-6 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference softball in Chadron, Neb. The No. 18-ranked Vikings posted an 8-2 win in Game 1.
CSC moves to 11-16, while Augustana falls to 17-4.
Ashley Meyer pitched 6.0 innings in the Vikings' win. She allowed seven hits and had four strikeouts.
Traci Fransen led the Vikings with three RBIs in Game 1. She slammed a home run to left field in the third inning to score
Jenny Brown and give the Vikings a 3-0 lead.
Taylor Kapsch had two RBIs and Brown led the team with three hits.
Kelsey Kalkman smashed a home run in the top of the fourth.
It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth that Chadron State scored its first run to trail 4-1.
Augustana scored its eighth run by Brown off a single by Chelsei Winskowski.
In Game 2
Chelsey Durland allowed 15 hits, while earning just one strike out.
Lindsey Spanton had five RBIs for Augustana.
With Murray and Fransen on first and second, Spanton hit a home run to right field in the top of the sixth to steal a 5-4 lead from Chadron State.
Chadron State responded with two runs to close the sixth inning and once again lead 6-5 over Augustana.
Theresa McMahon was able to cross home for the Vikings in the seventh inning off a single from Franson to tie the score 6-6, but the effort fell short as Schartz hit a home run in the bottom of the inning that scored three runs to give Chadron State the victory.
Augustana plays its first home game on Thursday against the University of Sioux Falls at 3 p.m.
