FINAL RESULTS
WINONA, Minn. - The Augustana women finished second with 139.5 points and the men were third with 104 points at the Winona State Invitational Friday at Paul Giel Field in Winona, Minn. The Vikings captured seven individual titles at the event.
Augustana got titles from Kristin Brondbo (women's 1,500-meter run and 800-meter run), Andrea Whitney (women's high jump), Tom Karbo (men's 3,000-meter steeplechase), Diego Oquendo (men's 100-meter dash), Aduo Omot (men's 800-meter dash) and Dylan Buehler (men's javelin).
The Vikings turned in strong performances in the 3000-meter steeplechase. In the men's event, Karbo took first (9:01.61), while Travis Beniak was second (9:11.54). Both provisionally qualified. Laura Johnson placed second in the women's race (11:54.89).
Augustana took the top four spots in the women's 1,500-meter run. Brondbo was first (4:35.73), Runa Falch was second (4:36.20), Kyle Blakeslee was third (4:40.34) and Molly Kokesh was fourth (4:43.41). Brondbo's time provisionally qualified her in the event for the second time this season.
Jordan Slusser took seventh in the men's 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:08.63.
After dominating the women's 1,500, the Vikings were equally impressive in the women's 800-meter run, owning the top six placers. Brondbo was first (2:18.81), Falch was second (2:18.92), Miriam Hovda placed third (2:20.21), Kokesh finished fourth (2:20.61), LeAnn Severson was fifth (2:21.14) and Blakeslee finished sixth (2:21.91).
Omot won the men's 800-meter run (1:51.74) and provisionally qualified, while Tom Karbo finished third (155.25).
In the 100-meter dash, Oquendo won the men's race after clocking in at 10.98 seconds, while Karmen Nyberg placed sixth in the women's race with a time of 13.55 seconds.
Paul Mallory was a third-place finisher in the men's 110-meter hurdles after turning in a time of 15.71 seconds.
Mary-Kathryn Tonner captured runner-up honors in the women's 400-meter hurdles after checking in with a time of 1:09.36; Mary Hitchcock was third in 1:09.62.
Colleen Everson finished third in the women's 200-meter dash (26.16), while Taylor Olson was fourth in the men's event (22.05).
Augustana had a total of five place winners in the 5,000-meter run. For the women, Kelsey Junget was seventh (19:28.59), and Courtney Rasmussen placed eighth (19:30.98). On the men's side, Paul Yak was second (15:13.99), Ryan Evans placed fourth (15:26.88) and Justin Grassmeyer finished sixth (15:43.19).
The Vikings' men's 4x100-meter relay squad finished second with a time of 42.30 seconds.
Hollie Bloom was a third-place finisher in the women's pole vault after clearing 10 feet, 8 inches.
The Vikings had the top two finishers in the women's high jump as Whitney won the event with a jump of 5 feet, 3.25 inches. Katie Guse placed second with an identical leap.
Noel Bentele took third in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 156 feet, 9 inches.
In the men's javelin, Buehler was first with a throw of 169 feet, 6 inches. Jacob Pohlmann finished seventh (132 feet, 10 inches).
Augustana will compete at the Drake Relays next Saturday.
