Minnesota Duluth tops Augustana; Game 2 suspended

DULUTH, Minn. - Augustana fell to Minnesota Duluth 4-0 in Game 1 of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon in Duluth, Minn. Game 2 was suspended after one pitch because of cold weather and will be continued tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.

UMD improves to 14-20 (9-12 NSIC), while Augustana drops to 24-19 (16-10 NSIC).

Bulldog pitcher Josh Foreman tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out two and allowing six hits.

Bennett Johnson (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season. He worked 5.1 innings, struck out four and allowed just one earned run. Kye Winter finished the game's final 0.2 innings.

Gates Cook led the Vikings at the dish, going 2 for 3.

The Bulldogs opened scoring in the fourth inning, using a double from Cody Aasen to push in a run. They added three more in the sixth on one hit and a Viking error.

It was the first time Augustana has been shut out this season.

Following tomorrow's first game, which will go seven innings instead of the normal nine, Augustana and UMD will play their regularly scheduled doubleheader (two seven-inning games).
