BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Augustana placed four on the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference team and one on the Gold Glove team, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Deryk Marks,
Charlie Dubanoski and
Nate Baumann were all named to the All-NSIC first team, while
Nate Alfson was chosen to the second team. Marks was also selected to the Gold Glove team.
The awards were voted on by the NSIC's 13 head coaches.
Marks, a senior shortstop from Cottage Grove, Minn., finished the NSIC season fifth in hits (44) seventh in batting average (.396) and doubles (11) and 10th in slugging percentage (.568). He is currently batting .384 and leads the Vikings with 71 hits and 18 doubles. 2011 is the second consecutive season Marks has been a first-team pick. It's also his second nod for the Gold Glove team.
A senior infielder from Burnsville, Minn., Dubanoski was second in the NSIC in batting average (.457), third in slugging percentage (.717), fifth in RBIs (33) and seventh in total bases (66). He currently leads Augustana with a .420 batting average and is tops on the team with 47 RBIs. Dubanoski, who also has four home runs on the season, was an All-NSIC first-team selection a year ago.
A native of Marshall, Minn., Baumann led the NSIC in home runs this season with seven. He was also fifth in total bases (72) and seventh in slugging percentage (.655). He is currently batting .364 with three triples, nine home runs and 43 RBIs. Baumann, a senior outfielder who has stolen 14 bases in 2011, became Augustana's all-time leader in several categories this season, including home runs, hits and doubles. This marks Baumann's fourth selection to an all-conference first team. He has been an All-NSIC pick in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and was an All-North Central Conference first teamer in 2008.
Alfson is batting .345 with 10 doubles and 33 RBIs this season. The senior catcher put together a string of 22 games in which he reached base earlier in the year and has also belted two homers. Alfson, a native of Pipestone, Minn., has six stolen bases to his credit.
No. 5-seeded Augustana (28-20) opens play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Wednesday at noon against No. 2-seeded St. Cloud State (38-8) in Mankato, Minn.
