SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The 2010-11 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference sports year is now complete, and Augustana has claimed seven team conference championships and one divisional title. The Vikings won their final team title last weekend when the women's outdoor track and field team won the conference meet in Aberdeen, S.D.
The list of NSIC team championships for Augustana in 2010-11 includes the following:
• Women's Cross Country
• Men's Cross Country
• Football (Southern Division)
• Wrestling
• Women's Golf
• Women's Tennis
• Softball
• Women's Track
Seven of these squads--along with baseball--qualified for NCAA postseason competition as teams. The men's and women's track and field teams will send a number of individuals to the NCAA Championship.
After the winter sports season, Augustana was first in the NSIC/US Bank All-Sports Standings with 92.5 points. Minnesota State was second with 78 points. Final standings for the year will be released in the coming weeks.
In the NCAA Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings, the Vikings were sixth after the winter sports season. These standings measure an institution's overall success in NCAA competition. Final standings for the Learfield Cup will be released after all spring sports complete NCAA competition. There are 302 institutions who are members of NCAA Division II.
“This tremendous success is a tribute to the outstanding coaches and student-athletes we are fortunate to have at Augustana,” said Director of Athletics Bill Gross. “We are very proud of their phenomenal achievements.”
Augustana sponsors 18 sports--nine for men and nine for women. There are 362 student-athletes competing in athletics programs at Augustana in 2010-11.
