Four Vikings named Daktronics All-Region

ST. CLOUD, Minn.
- Augustana had four players named 2011 Daktronics All-Central Region, Daktronics, Inc., announced Wednesday. Ashley Meyer and Jenny Brown landed on the first team, while Traci Fransen and Lindsay Spanton received second-team honors.

Meyer, a junior from Rapid City, S.D., made the All-Central Region first team as a pitcher with a record of 28-5. She has an ERA of 1.24 in 38 appearances in the circle and 220.0 innings pitched. Meyer has tallied 211 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .226 batting average. She recorded her 11th complete shutout of the season in the championship of the Central 1 Regional to lead Augustana to the tournament title.

Brown is a sophomore left fielder from Omaha, Neb. She leads the Vikings in batting average (.435), hits (84), on base percentage (.479) and stolen bases (11). In 193 at bats, Brown has struck out just seven times.

Fransen, a native of Jackson, Minn., picked up second-team regional honors as the Vikings' third baseman. Her 35 career home runs reset Augustana's record earlier this season and the 11 homers Fransen has smashed this season is among the top on the team. She led the conference in RBIs (31) and currently has 61 RBIs on the season. She leads the Vikings in doubles (15) and is batting .378 with 71 hits and 49 runs scored.

Spanton is a freshman designated player from Apple Valley, Minn.  She has recorded a .374 batting average with 12 doubles and 10 home runs. Spanton is slugging .649 and has taken 100 total bases on the season. She is among the top on the team with 49 RBIs.

Adams State's sophomore outfielder Katelyn Lovato was named the 2011 Daktronics Central Region Player of the Year, while Wayne State senior hurler Katie Goetzinger tabbed the 2011 Daktronics Central Region Pitcher of the Year.

Augustana (49-9) continues postseason action this weekend, hosting Minnesota State (51-13) in the Super Regional. The three-game series taking place at Bowden Field begins Friday at 2 p.m. The second game begins at 1 p.m on Saturday, and a third game (if necessary) will start at 3:30 p.m.
