DAKTRONICS ALL-AMERICA
ROLLA, Mo. – Augustana's
Jenny Brown earned a spot on the Daktronics All-America honorable mention squad, Daktronics Inc. announced this week.
Brown helped Augustana to a 50-11 record and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 2011. The Vikings, who were ranked as high as seventh nationally, advanced to the Super Regional, where they fell to conference-neighbor Minnesota State in a best-of-three series.
A sophomore outfielder from Omaha, Neb., Brown led Augustana with a .422 batting average and a team-high 86 hits. The left-handed slap hitter owned a .464 on-base percentage and struck out just nine times in 204 at bats. Brown also had a .990 fielding percentage.
In just two seasons in a Viking uniform, Brown has already collected a pair of All-NSIC and All-Central Region nods.
Brown joins
Traci Fransen, who earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America third team honors, as Augustana's two All-America picks for the 2011 season. The selections are the first for head coach
Gretta Melsted and first for the Vikings since 2006 when Katie Krauth picked up third-team honors from Louisville Slugger/NFCA.
