AUGUSTANA VS. MINOT STATE
MOORHEAD, Minn. - Augustana held Minnesota, Crookston (25-20, 25-11, 25-17) to a .009 hitting percentage and Minot State (25-13, 25-12, 25-12) to a -.039 hitting percentage to defeat both teams 3-0 Friday at the MSU Moorhead Dragon Classic.
The Vikings improve to 4-2 overall.
Augustana had a balanced attack in the opening match against UMC.
Holly Hafemeyer led the team in kills with nine, while
Jordan Spatenka and
Lindsey Petersen were close behind with eight and seven, respectively.
Kayla Wallerich tallied 14 digs and 26 assists.
Christine Bielski added 13 digs.
Augustana battled UMC close in the first set. The Vikings earned a 21-20 lead off a service ace by
Courtney Ysker and Augustana went on to take the set 25-20.
The Vikings took a decisive lead in the second set, going up 19-10 on a Golden Eagle attack error. Augustana won the set 25-11.
UMC had a 14-10 lead in the final set but the Vikings fought back and regained a lead at 17-16. Augustana closed out the set 25-17.
In Augustana's match against MSU, Spatenka recorded 12 kills and a .391 hitting percentage to help the Vikings hit .325 overall.
In the opening set, Augustana took the lead early on and managed to close out the set 25-13.
Augustana went on a seven-point run in the second set to gain a 10-3 advantage. The Vikings went on another seven-point run at 16-10 and added another three points to take the set 25-12.
MSU battled closer to begin the final set, but never managed a lead. After a knot in the score at 9-9, the Vikings earned four straight points. MSU only won three more points in the set for a 25-12 Augustana victory.
The Vikings return to action tomorrow against St. Cloud State (12:30 p.m.) and Minnesota State Moorhead (5:30 p.m.).
