Holly Hafemeyer named AVCA All-America

AVCA RELEASE

LEXINGTON, Ky.
- Augustana junior middle blocker Holly Hafemeyer was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America third team in an announcement made on Monday morning.

A native of Faribault, Minn., Hafemeyer led Augustana in kills, attack percentage, and total blocks after starting all 30 matches and playing in 103 total sets.  Hafemeyer smashed 362 kills (3.51/set), to lead the team along with her team-high .312 attack percentage and 92 total blocks.  Hafemeyer also chipped in with 13 service aces and 73 digs from her middle blocker position.  The junior tallied double-digit kills in a match on 21 occasions and over 15 kills eight times.  Hafemeyer also achieved two career highs in the 2012 season with her 22 kills against Wayne State on Sept. 18 and her outstanding .688 attack percentage against University of Mary on Sept. 28.

Hafemeyer's performance against the tougher competition assisted her in earning her All-America status.  Augustana faced a ranked opponent on 11 occasions in 2012 including three teams that would hold the top-ranked spot in the AVCA Coaches' Poll.  Against the ranked competition, Hafemeyer increased her hitting percentage to .316 and tallied nearly half her kills (150) in just over a third of her sets played (39).  Hafemeyer swung at a .316 clip while the Vikings averaged a .181 attack percentage in the matches against ranked opponents.

Hafemeyer becomes the seventh All-America nominee in the 41-year history of the Augustana volleyball program with the last being two-time All-American setter Kari Peterson in 2000 and 2001.  Earlier this month, Hafemeyer was named to the AVCA All-Central Region squad, marking just the second time a Viking has earned that accolade.

Augustana finished the season 17-13 overall with an 11-9 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and qualified for the eight-team NSIC tournament.
