ST. LOUIS - Augustana's Adam Braun just missed qualifying for Team USA with his sixth-place finish at the 2012 USA Cross Country Championships Saturday.
A top-five finish would have ensured Braun a chance to run at the North America, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships, which will be conducted in Port of Spain, Trinidad, on March 17. He will be the first alternate in the event one is needed.
Braun, who ran in the men's junior division, logged a time of 25 minutes, 7.9 seconds on the 8,000-meter course.
Teammate Shane McCallum placed 25th with a time of 26:48.10.
In the women's junior race, the Vikings' Megan Brown took 33rd. She navigated the 6,000-meter route in 24:09.60.
All Augustana runners competed unattached.
The Augustana women's squad won the national title in 2011, while the men were sixth-place finishers. Both squads won the conference title this past season.
