Viking men are back in action

This week
Augustana men's tennis (1-0) is back in action Saturday to play two matches in Storm Lake, Iowa. The Vikings face Coe (6-0) at 11:30 a.m. and Buena Vista (3-2) at 3 p.m.     

Last time out
Augustana won its season-opening match, defeating Nebraska Wesleyan 8-1 on Feb. 4. The Vikings began the match with a bang, capturing three doubles victories. Augustana had singles wins from Jared Drenkow (6-0, 6-1), Mitchell Barr (6-2, 6-2), Collin Noldner (6-2, 6-2), Jackson Buchanan (6-1, 6-1) and Neil Gregerson (6-0, 6-0). JD Carrels played an exhibition match for the Vikings and won 8-1.

Back in action
The Vikings return to competition after a three-week break from competition. Augustana's last and only dual so far this season was against Nebraska Wesleyan on Feb. 4.

We're back
Eight Vikings are back in 2012. Senior Jared Drenkow, who won a team-high five singles matches last season, returns as Augustana's top player. He is accompanied by seniors Neal Gregerson and Isaac Krueger.

Who's new
Four Vikings are new this year on Augustana's 2012 roster. Jackson Buchanan from Mendota Heights, Minn., Collin Noldner from Sioux Falls and Blue Earth, Minn., native Colan Surratt enter Augustana as freshmen. Mitchell Barr is new to Augustana this season as a junior. He spent the last two seasons at Minnesota State.    

Coaches' corner
Marc Kurtz begins his seventh season as head coach of the Augustana men's team. The Vikings were 3-11 in 2011. The NSIC does not sponsor men's tennis.

Next up
Augustana takes on Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Gustavus on March 10. Both matches will be played in St. Peter, Minn.
