AUGUSTANA VS. BEMIDJI STATE
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Augustana swept a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponents Saturday, beating Minnesota, Crookston 9-0 before downing Bemidji State 9-0.
The Vikings won all 18 matches in straight sets on the day to improve to 8-1 (4-0 NSIC). The Golden Eagles fall to 0-4 (0-4 NSIC), while Bemidji State is now 1-4 (1-1 NSIC).
Against UMC,
Katie Jesperson and
Michelle Wadas teamed at the top spot to win an 8-2 decision against Katelyn Johnson and Alyssa Klingenberg.
Hannah Gebauer and
Heather Sullivan played at the No. 2 position and beat Cassie Jarvis and Amanda Pihlaja 8-1.
Jessica Spalding and
Gabrielle Kachena completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory at No. 3.
Three Vikings swept their opponents 6-0, 6-0 in singles competition. Wadas at No. 1,
Jenna Helleberg at No. 5 and
Adrienne Conley at No. 6.
Gebauer blew past Jarvis 6-0, 6-1 on the second singles court, while Sullivan posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Liz Lewis had a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4.
In Augustana's dual against BSU, doubles action was highlighted for the Vikings by an 8-0 victory from Jesperson and Wadas at No. 1.
The pairs of Gebaur and Sullivan and Kachena and Spalding each earned 8-2 victories at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
The Vikings continued to roll though their singles matches with Wadas (No. 2), Gebauer (No. 3) and Spalding (No. 6) all winning 6-0, 6-0.
Jesperson and Sullivan both earned 6-0, 6-1 victories at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. At No. 5, Lewis improved her singles record to 11-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
