SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana head men's basketball coach
Tom Billeter announced Tuesday Brookings native Tanner Odegaard has committed to the Vikings for 2012-13.
Odegaard, a 5-foot-10 guard, will graduate from Brookings High School this spring. He was a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter.
As a senior in 2011-12, Odegaard averaged 14. 8 points per game and shot 40 percent from behind the arc to help his team to a region title and fifth-place state finish. He was named all-conference and all-state and landed on the South Dakota State Class AA All-Tournament Team. The
Brookings Register named Odegaard its Player of the Year.
Odegaard's junior season included 14.2 points per contest and spots on the all-conference and All-
Brookings Register team. He also averaged 6.1 points per contest as a sophomore in a reserve role.
“Tanner had a terrific senior season for Brookings,” Billeter said. “He is an excellent student off the court and a very intelligent player on it. He has exceptional range; we couldn't be happier he has chosen Augustana and the Elmen Center as the venue in which he wishes to continue making 3s.”
Odegaard joins Daniel Jansen (Orange City, Iowa), Zach Huisken (Chandler, Minn.), Jack Preston (Basingstoke, Hampshire, England) and Casey Schilling (Ellsworth, Minn.) in Billeter's 2011-12 recruiting class.
Augustana made its 10th appearance in the NCAA tournament in 2011-12 and finished the season 17-11. The Vikings tied for fourth in the NSIC with a 14-8 conference mark.
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana College is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
