Karbo breaks 25-year-old school record in 5,000 meters

MT. SAC RELAYS

WALNUT, Calif
- Tom Karbo ran 14:08.27 in the men's 5,000 meters to notch the fastest time at Augustana in 25 years late Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays. Karbo broke Scott Munsen's (14:27.5) record set in 1987 by 19 seconds. His provisionally qualifying time is ninth in the nation and earned him a runner up finish by less than a second to Nebraska's Trevor Vidlak.

Kyle Blakeslee and Kristin Brondbo provisionally qualified for nationals in the women's 5,000-meter run.  Blakeslee's time of 16:40.89 is second at Augustana and a personal record by 35 seconds. She finished fifth. Brondbo ran the race in a season-best 17:03.14 to take 22nd.           

Runa Falch also ran the women's 5,000 meters and finished in a season-best 17:27.52 to place 29th. She was just seven seconds shy of a provisional mark.

Aduo Omot ran the 800 meters in 1:54.58 for 73rd.

The remainder of the Viking squad is competing at the Northwestern Invitational in Orange City, Iowa, Friday and Saturday.
