RESULTS
YANKTON, S.D. – Gathin Veldhuizen led the way for Augustana at the Mount Marty Twilight Meet Tuesday evening, winning the men's 110-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles. Khor Kong picked up the other title for the Vikings in the men's 400-meter dash.
Andrea Whitney recorded her best mark of the outdoor season in the women's high jump. She jumped 5 feet, 6 inches to provisionally qualify for the national championships and place second.
Veldhuizen raced the 400-meter hurdles in 55.98 seconds and finished the 100-meter hurdles in 15.15 seconds. Kong clocked in at 49.22. The times are collegiate bests for the two freshmen.
Phil Rien also recorded a collegiate best in the long jump with his leap of 21 feet, 11 inches. He took fourth.
Dylan Buehler notched a second-place finish in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 183 feet, 11 inches. In the women's javelin throw, Mary Hitchcock threw 94 feet, 11 inches to place eighth.
In the men's triple jump, Casey Diggs leaped 41 feet, .50 inches to take third. Kirsten Noska jumped 33 feet, 3 inches on the women's side to finish eighth.
Jordan Slusser raced a time of 3 minutes, 58.09 seconds in the men's 1,500 meters, which was good for third place.
Skyler Kuil was fifth in the men's 400-meter hurdles in 58.31.
Anne Parsley ran unattached in the women's 400-meter dash and clocked in at 59.29 to finish third. Colleen Everson ran 1:00.58 to place fifth.
Meagan Grandgenett placed in the top 8 in two events—the women's 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. She circled the oval in 15.44 to take third and leaped 16 feet, 8 inches for a seventh-place finish.
Katie Tonner and Hitchcock also placed for the Vikings in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Tonner was fifth (15.76) and Hitchock finished sixth (15.92).
Karmen Nyberg finished fifth in the both the 100-meter dash (12.87) and the 200-meter dash (26.78). Kirsten sprinted the 100-meter dash in 12.95 seconds to place seventh.
In the women's 800-meter run, Alyssa Schmidt logged a time of 2:30.97 (sixth place).
Augustana is back on the track this weekend at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
