DES MOINES, Iowa – Augustana's Paul Yak posted a strong finish in the men's 10,000-meter run at the Drake Relays on Thursday, circling the oval in a school-record 29 minutes, 56.98 seconds to finish fifth and hit a provisionally qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships. The time ranks him 16th in the nation and first in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
The sophomore beat his previous school record of 30:17.67 set last weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays. Yak's performances erased the 25 year-old school record (30.23.0) set by Scott Munsen in 1987.
Another sophomore, Annie Pfeifle, ran the 10,000 meters on the women's side and clocked in at 36:41.11. She now holds the second-best time in the conference behind Augustana's Leah Hansen. Pfeifle was one second off a provisionally qualifying time for the NCAA Championships and placed 18th.
Ryan Evan's also raced in the men's 10,000 meters and captured the No. 3 time in the NSIC, finishing in 30:58.55. Evan's placed 22nd and was 18 seconds off a provisionally qualifying mark.
