Omot runs fastest 800 meters in nation at Minnesota State Twilight

MANKATO, Minn.
–  Augustana's Aduo Omot ran the fastest time in the nation in the men's 800 meters Wednesday night at the Minnesota State Twilight. His time of 1 minute, 48.51 seconds beat the previous Division II leader, Adam's State's Borishe Berian's time of 1:48.93. Omot's time is also one second faster than the automatic qualifying mark of 1:49.89, and he checked in four seconds faster than the second-place finisher from South Dakota State. 

Kristin Brondbo broke Runa Falch's 2011 school record in the women's 1,500 meters and also automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships, winning the race in 4:26.44. Her time is seventh in the nation. Falch also ran the 1,500 meters and was just a second shy of the automatic qualifying mark with a time of 4:28.25. Her provisionally qualifying time earned her a second-place finish and is ninth in the nation.

Tom Karbo and Henrik Hansson provisionally qualified for nationals in the men's 5,000-meter run. Karbo clocked in at 3:48.12 to place second, while Hansson ran a personal record 3:49.68 to take fourth.

The Vikings also had a host of athletes post personal records and finish first.

Phil Rien won the men's long jump in a personal record 22 feet, 2.75 inches. Rein also recorded a personal best in the high jump with his runner-up finish of 6 feet, 5 inches. His mark in the long jump is fourth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. In the high jump, Rein is sixth in the league.

Kelly Kougl won the women's 800 meters in 2:18.20 and Khor Kong ran a personal best 1:54.27 on the men's side to place fourth.  

Katie Guse earned a title in the women's high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4.75 inches. Karissa Pepin had a personal best jump of 5 feet, 3.75 inches to take fourth.  

Shane McCallum finished the men's 5,000-meter run in 15:05.03 and was just one second off the USA Junior qualifying mark of 15:04. He notched a second-place finish.

Augustana had a 1-2 finish in the women's 5,000 meters with Leah Hansen coming in at 17:24.67 and Annie Pfeifle checking in at 17:33.70.

Meagan Grandgenett locked in a second-place finish in the women's long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 0.33 inches.

The Vikings' final meet before postseason competition is on Friday and Saturday at the Sioux Falls Relays.
