Various members of the Augustana soccer team check in with blogs throughout the year.
Well, it has literally felt like I have been home for three weeks now, but oh wait, its been two and a half months! The summer has flown by. I have been living a pretty exciting summer life, let me tell you. I wake up, go lift, run, come home, watch some tv (soccer game or occassionally the CMT countdown), go to practice, come home, shower, go to work, come home, go to bed, then wake up and do it all over again. However, when I do venture from this awesome routine, I have managed to have some fun this summer!
I have been training on a summer team in Omaha with
Haley Berner. It has been a ton of fun, and it has helped me get my fitness and touch back after my injury last fall. Although somedays I pretend I hate all the running we do, let's be real, I love it. We have done some pretty crazy fitness tests this summer and I have thrown up a few times (weird, I know). In June, I did the Warrior Dash in Louisville, Neb. It's a 5k with about 10 obstacles. I crawled under barbbed wire, climbed a rock wall and slid down the back on a pole (saw a lady snap her ankle on that one, ouch!), trudged through muddy water up to my neck, jumped over fire, and crawled through mud to get to the finish line. Right when I got done, I wanted to do it again! I was covered in mud from head to toe. (Mom wasn't too happy about this when I got home. She wouldn't even let me in the house. I had to stand out in the yard while she sprayed me down with the hose.)
I also did the Color Run in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I ran this with all of my brothers and sisters and both
Haley Berner and
Meg Thacker. This was a 5k where you wore all white and they threw colors at you at certain points throughout the race. It was very fun! I also played in a three-on-three tournament in Lincoln the same weekend with some old high school friends. I played our last three games with colors all over my body (intimidation I'd say).
In June,
Mackenzie Trom came for a visit. We went to the College World Series in Omaha. We met up with
Haley Berner and
Ally Brown, and it was awesome! I also spent a week up north in Minnesota with a friend from high school and her family. We stayed in a cabin on a lake. We fished, and tried out our luck tubing and on the wakeboard, which is always fun and unfortunately, always painful.
Despite all this fun, I have had to work a bit. I have been bar-backing at a Mexican restaurant called "El bees" in Waterloo, Neb. Some nights it is alot of fun and some nights not so much. I have also helped with a few soccer camps in Omaha and Gretna. I love seeing the kids I work with get better with each passing year. It is very exciting and encouraging.
As most of you know I just really love soccer. I could watch, read, and play soccer all day, everyday. I loved every second of the Euro Cup and cannot wait for the Olympics! I could play with a bunch of random people for hours until it was literally too dark to see the ball (ok, maybe I've done this one a few times). As much as I love summer, I cannot wait to get back and play with everyone. Yeah, we have been good in the past, but this year I think we are going to be GREAT! We have a young, yet experienced team which brings alot of energy and excitement. I believe we are going to do BIG things this year, and I can't wait to see them unfold. "We can. We must. We will."
