16 Vikings earn points at Jack Johnson Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn.
– Augustana track and field sent 33 athletes to the Jack Johnson Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday and Saturday.  The Augustana women placed sixth as a team, collecting 26 points, while the Vikings men notched 34 points and placed seventh.
 
Leading the Vikings were Katie Guse and Kelsey Kaufmann who placed fourth and fifth in the high jump to collect a combined 11 points.  Guse hit a new season-high mark at 1.68 meters and Kaufmann followed suit with a season- and collegiate-best 1.64 meters.  Guse earned six points and Kauffman, five points, for their performances.
 
The next pair of Vikings to tally double-digit points was the Greenway brothers in the 200-meter dash.  Jason Greenway crossed the finish line in 22.64 seconds, good enough for third place.  Justin Greenway finished fifth with a time of 22.82 seconds.  Jason earned six points and Justin collected four for the Vikings' men's squad.  Jason also finished sixth in the 60-meter finals in 7.02 seconds for three points.
 
Henrik Holmberg tallied seven more points for the Vikings with his performances in the long jump and high jumps.  Holmberg finished higher in the long jump, seventh, with a leap of 6.65 meters than he did in the high jump but due to unattached competitors, he earned more points in the high jump.  Holmberg tied for eighth, clearing the bar at 1.96 meters and collected four points for the team.
 
In the triple jump, Kaylynn Erlandson landed at 11.25 meters for a fourth-place finish and Kristen Noska came in eighth with a distance of 10.38 meters.
 
Ryan Heuer completed his run in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.76 seconds, finishing fifth.  Kristin Brondbo chalked up a 4:56.21 mile run for fifth place, as well.
 
The women's 4x400 meter relay team finished eighth with a time of 4:01.46 and Kayla Mescher finished eighth in the individual 400-meter dash in 59.18 seconds.  In the men's 400-meter dash, Khor Kong finished eighth in 51.64 seconds.
 
Adam Braun led a trio of Vikings in the men's 3,000-meter run with an eighth place finish in 8:42.99.  With a maximum of three scoring runners, Paul Yak and John Klecker collected points in 10th and 11th, respectively.  Yak finished in 8:46.21 seconds and Klecker right behind him, crossing the finish line at 8:46.46.

CJ Ham earned three points in two events for the Vikings. Ham finished seventh in the shot put with a heave of 15.75 meters and 11th in the weight throw at 14.9 meters.
 
The Vikings return to their indoor track and field home away from home at Minnesota State Open and Pentathlon on Jan. 25.
