Holmberg leads NSIC heptathlon after day one, Tonner finishes pentathlon in seventh

PENTATHLON RESULTS  | HEPTATHLON RESULTS (DAY ONE)

MANKATO, Minn. 
– Henrik Holmberg finished day one of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships.  Homberg and Jacob Pohlmann competed in the men's heptathlon while Katie Tonner and Mary Hitchcock represented the Vikings in the women's pentathlon.
 
The full NSIC Championships for the indoor track and field season will take place on Feb. 22 in Mankato, Minn. Based on the multi-event finishes by the athletes, points will be added to the totals the teams accumulate at the team meet.
 
Holmberg tallied 3,090 points through four events; Pohlman racked up 2,579 and sits in 10th after the first day.  Day one consisted of the 60-meter dash, shot put, long jump and high jump.  On day two, the athletes will compete in the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000-meter run.
 
Holmberg ran a 7.23-second 60-meter dash and hit a 13.23-meter mark in the shot put to start off the day.  The Vik, Norway native then hit 6.88 meters in the long jump and cleared 2.02 meters in the high jump for the final event of the day.
 
Tonner finished the women's pentathlon in seventh place and just a few points shy of provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Championships, collecting 3,116 points in her five events. 
 
The women's pentathlon consists of the 60-meter hurdles, long jump, shot put, high jump, and 800-meter run.  Hitchcock tallied 2,785 points to finish in 17th.
