Holmberg sets school record and auto-qualifies at NSIC Championships

MANKATO, Minn.
– Henrik Holmberg shattered his own school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships with his second-place finish in the heptathlon at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Multi-Event Championships on Sunday and Monday.
 
Holmberg set six personal-bests out of the seven events and tallied 5,213 points to break his school record by nearly 300 points.  Holmberg surpassed the auto-qualifying mark of 5,158 and is guaranteed a spot at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 8-9. 
 
In every event but the pole vault, Holmberg hit a personal-record mark and even in the pole vault, the sophomore cleared 3.75 meters, just 0.01 meters shy of a personal best. 
 
A Vik, Norway native, Holmberg held a lead after day one of the heptathlon but was surpassed by Minnesota State's Nathan Hancock who finished with a score of 5,276. 
 
The NSIC Multi-Event Championships are part of the NSIC Indoor Track and Field Championships and Holmberg earned eight points for the Augustana men's team score. 
 
Jacob Pohlmann entered day two in 10th place but did not place in his first two events of the second day and withdrew from the competition. 
 
The Vikings will participate in the University of South Dakota Twilight Open on Feb. 15 as the last meet before the NSIC Championships on Feb. 22 and 23.
