USTFCCCA RELEASE
NEW ORLEANS - Eight Vikings earned All-Central Region honors for their performances during the indoor track and field season in a release by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday afternoon. Kirstin Brondbo, Runa Falch, Colleen Everson, Kayla Mescher, and Katie Guse represent the Viking women and TJ Gleason, Henrik Hansson, and Henrik Holmberg were the Augsutana men named to the All-Central region team.
In order to earn all-region honors, an athlete must place top five in their respective event relative to their region or if part of a relay team, each member will earn all-region honors if their relay team places top three.
Brondbo leads the way for the Vikings, earning honors in four different events. The Steinkjer, Norway native was top five in the mile, 3,000-meter, and 5,000-meter runs as well as a part of the distance medley relay team. Joining Brondbo on the DMR team were Falch, Everson, and Mescher.
Falch and Mescher earned a second all-region honor as well. Falch's performance in the 3,000-meter run netted her a second award and Mescher grabbed a second nod in the 800-meter run. Katie Guse's 1.69-meter high jump mark gave her an All-Central region selection.
On the men's side, Holmberg's school record-breaking performance in the heptathlon headlines the Vikings who earned All-Central region honors. Hansson got the nod from the USTFCCCA for his showing in the 800-meter run and Gleason's performance in the 5,000-meter run at the NSIC Championships garners his All-Central region honors.
