Hawaii Pacific downs Augustana in extra innings in game two

BOX SCORE WAIPAHU, Hawaii – Hawaii Pacific plated the game-winning run on a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the eighth inning in a 7-6 over Augustana on Saturday night in Waipahu, Hawaii. Augustana (0-2) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead but the Seawarriors (2-0) scored an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning to send the game in to extra frames.

Tony Viger was 1 for 3 in the game with three RBI while Zach Dibble delivered two hits and an RBI for the Vikings.

Edward Trovato (1-0) earned the win on the hill throwing two innings allowing just one run and striking out four batters for Hawaii Pacific. Augustana's David Borchardt (0-1) was tagged with the loss.

Edward Campbell led HPU at the plate going 3 for 4 with two RBI.   

Augustana took an early lead in game two scoring two runs in the top of the second inning. Viger led off the inning with a walk and moved up to third base after a failed pickoff attempt by the HPU pitcher. Brendan Koistinen stepped up and singled to right center field to drive in the first run of the game.

The Vikings went up 2-0 after Dibble singled up the middle to score Nate Hewes who reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice.

Hawaii Pacific took a 3-2 lead after it scored three runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. The Sewarriors got their first run of the game when Keanu Kapana walked with the bases loaded to score Jordan Oshiro. Sumner followed with a sacrifice fly to center field and Chad Bolibol singled to drive in the third run.

HPU began the bottom of the fourth inning with two a single to left field by Jordan Inamasu followed by a bunt single by Wade Tamaru. After Oshiro flied out to right field Tokunaga and Campbell delivered back-to-back singles up the middle to put the Seawarriors in front 5-2.

Augustana answered in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead to one at 5-4. Jake Petersen walked to lead off the inning and David Borchardt stepped up and doubled to right field advancing Petersen to third on the play. Augustana's next two batters, Kye Winter and Viger, grounded out the shortstop but the Seawarriors conceded the runs allowing the Vikings back within one.

After a scoreless sixth inning, Augustana took a 6-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Viger delivered a big two-RBI single up the middle with two outs to give the Vikings the lead. HPU was able to plate an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning on an error by Viger, sending the game into extra innings tied at six.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, HPU's first two batters reached base on a walk and a single. Matt Musser came in to pitch for Ryan Burmeister and walked the bases loaded before walking in the game winning run.

Augustana and Hawaii Pacific will play a doubleheader at Hans L'Orange Park beginning at 4 p.m. CT tomorrow afternoon.
