AMES, Iowa – Augustana's men's and women's distance medley relay teams both finished top three and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships at the Iowa State Classic on Friday night.

The women's team of Kristin Brondbo, Colleen Everson, Kayla Mescher, and Runa Falch crossed the finish line in 11:50.86, good enough for second place. The time could be adjusted based on track size, but it currently ranks third in Division II.

“It was exciting to have the women run a national qualifying mark today,” said head coach Tracy Hellman. “Colleen and Kayla had great individual legs and Mescher's split was a personal best.”

Mescher ran a 2:14.8 800-meter leg to propel the Vikings and Erverson completed the 400-meter leg in 57.8 seconds. Runa Falch and Kristin Brondbo lead the nation with the top two 3,000-meter times pulled their weight in the 1,200- and 1,600-meter legs.

The men, who are replacing two members from their national champion squad last season, finished third and provisionally qualified with a time of 10:08.98; the time may still be adjusted.

“It was also exciting for the men to attain a national qualifying mark,” Hellman said. “We still have room for improvement, so that is promising.”

Henrik Hansson completed his 1,200 meters in 3:04, Jason Greenway finished his 400 meters with a time of 49.48, Khor Kong doubled up Greenway's distance in 1:56.20 and Harald Karbo finished the 1,600-meter final leg in 4:17.90.

TJ Gleason and Adam Braun both finished in the top-20 of the 5,000-meter run with Gleason coming in 10th. Gleason finished with a time of 15:05.47 and Braun crossed the line in 15:22.12.

Falch will compete in the 3,000-meter run and Brondbo and Hansson will run the mile tomorrow.
