WAYNE, Neb. – Aaron Jung won the shot put for the second consecutive week and Augustana earned 20 top-five finishes at the Wayne State Spring Invite on Saturday.
Jung tossed the shot 17.10 meters to better his provisional qualifying mark that he hit last weekend at the Missouri Relays. Jung's heave was over a meter farther than second place. CJ Ham finished in third in the shot put for the second straight week.
Kayla Mescher turned in the highest finish for the Viking women with a second-place time of 58.06 seconds in the 400-meter dash. Colleen Everson finished in fifth in the same event (1:01.52 seconds) and turned in a fifth-plce mark as well in the long jump (5.15 meters).
It was a family affair for the Greenways and Nybergs as they racked up six combined top-five finishes in three events. Justin and Jason Greenway finished third and fourth, respectively, in the men's 100-meter dash. Not to be outdone, Jason placed third in the 200-meter dash and Justin finished fifth.
Also, in the 200-meter dash, Karmen Nyberg placed third with a time of 26.43 seconds and Kirsten finished one slot behind her with a time of 26.51.
John Klecker and Glen Ellingson finished 2-3 in the 1,500-meter run and Klecker also placed fourth in the 800-meter run. Ryan Heuer notched a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles, clocking a 16.07-second time.
Zach Feil logged two top-five finishes, placing third in the high jump and fourth in the triple jump. Also in the triple jump, Kaylynn Erlandson finished fifth.
Kristi Porter placed third in the javelin throw and the women's 4x100-meter relay team placed third, as well.
The Vikings return to the oval when they host the Vance Butler Invitational on April 6 at the Howard Wood Track in Sioux Falls, S.D.
