BOX SCORE MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota State (22-7, 11-3 NSIC) scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 5-5 tie before adding six runs in the bottom of the eighth to defeat Augustana (16-15, 4-6 NSIC) 15-5 in the final game of a four game series on Monday.
Minnesota State grabbed a 2-0 lead scoring a run in the first and second inning. Augustana was able to tie the game at 2 in the top of the fifth inning.
Zach Dibble drove in Augustana's first run with a single to center field scoring
Kye Winter who singled with one out in the inning.
Jake Petersen followed Dibble and singled to left field to score Michael Willman, who walked after Winter's single, to tie the game.
The Mavericks answered right back and went ahead 5-2 after a three-run bottom of the fifth inning.
After going down quietly in the sixth, Augustana scored three runs in the top of the seventh to square things up at 5. The Vikings' scored all three runs with two outs in the inning.
Jack Goihl was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the first run.
Tony Viger then delivered a two-RBI single to center field to tie the ball game. Minnesota State would get out of the jam as Nate Hewe's hit into a fielder's choice and the Mavericks forced out a Viking runner at third to end the threat.
Minnesota State would go on to score 10 runs over the next two innings to defeat Augustana by the 10-run rule, 15-5.
Augustana was scheduled to play at Bemidji State on Wednesday, but due to poor field conditions in Bemidji, Minn., the doubleheader has been moved to Sioux Falls.
