ABCA ALL-REGION TEAM
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana's
Nate Hewes and
Jake Petersen have been named to the 2013 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Central Region second team as selected by the region's head baseball coaches.
Hewes, a senior from Stillwater, Minn., was named first team All-NSIC and first team Daktronics All-Region earlier this month. He finished the season batting .373 with 60 hits, including 13 doubles, one triple and a team-high eight home runs. Hewes drove in 50 runs, stole 11 bases and compiled a .615 slugging percentage and a .450 on-base percentage during his senior campaign.
Petersen, a junior from Blair, Neb., was an All-NSIC first team selection this season after leading the NSIC in hits, runs scored, stolen bases and total plate appearances. Petersen was also named to the Daktronics All-Central Region second team this season. He finished the season batting .364 with 67 hits, including four doubles, three triples and two home runs. Petersen drove in 36 runs and stole a team-high 29 bases.
Augustana finished the 2013 season with a school record 38 wins, finishing 38-18, marking its fourth straight season of 30-plus wins. The Vikings posted a 21-7 record in NSIC play, which was good for a third place finish.
