DAY THREE RESULTS
PUEBLO, Colo. – Aaron Jung hit a personal-best and broke his own school record as he became Augustana's first All-American in the shot put and first field event All-American. Jung finished eighth in the men's shot put competition at the NCAA Track and Field Competition as Minnesota State's Christopher Reed broke the stadium record and won.
Opening the shot put competition, Jung hit 15.90 meters (52-2) on his first attempt, placing him in 12th with two more attempts to crack the top nine and warrant an invitation to the finals.
Securing a spot in the finals, Jung snuck in the at ninth spot with a 17.16-meter (56 feet-3.75) toss, just a few inches from his personal best he set earlier this season.
Jung couldn't better his mark with his final heave in the prelims but still continued to throw well, hitting a 16.89-meter (55-5) mark on his final prelim throw.
In his first throw of the finals, Jung improved his mark with a 17.25-meter (56-7.25) toss but couldn't move out of ninth.
Letting out a beastly roar, Jung continued to improve his standing with a 17.64-meter (57-10.5) mark. With that toss, the senior from Watertown, S.D. improved his personal best and broke his own school record which he set earlier this season.
On his final attempt, Jung couldn't improve his throw after fouling, but his best mark would stand and he earned his first All-America accolade.
To close out the Vikings' trip to the NCAA Championships, Augustana earned four All-America honors and placed all six athletes in the top 13 of their respective events.
