SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana men's golf team is tied for sixth place after 36 holes of play in the Jackrabbit Invite at the Minnehaha Country Club in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Vikings shot a 42-over-par 610 on day one of competition, which consisted of two rounds. South Dakota State University leads the eight-team field with a 19-over-par 587 through the first two rounds.
The Vikings put up a 27-over-par 311 score during the first round of the tournament this morning, putting them in sixth place after the first round. Reigning champion North Dakota State led the competition after the first round with an eight-over-par 292.
After a quick break, Augustana got back out on the course for another 18 holes. The Vikings fired a 15-over-par 299 in the second round. The Jackrabbits found their groove with an eight-over-par 292 in the afternoon, putting them up one shot on the Bison after two rounds of play.
Tyler Jensvold had a solid day on the course and is currently tied for sixth place after two rounds. Jensvold started off the tournament by recording a four-over-par 75 in the first round. The junior went back out for the second round in the afternoon and shot a one-over-par 72, giving him a five-over-par 147 on the day. South Dakota State's Hudson Carpenter is on top of the leaderboard after two rounds with an overall score of three-under-par 139.
John Grothe had a strong showing in day one. The Brandon, S.D. native finished tied for ninth place after two rounds with a score of six-over-par 148. Grothe fired a seven-over-par 78 in the first round, and a one-under-par 70 in the second round.
Clay Kopplin shot a 15-over-par 157 for the day, putting the sophomore in a tie for 34th place. Kopplin had an eight-over-par 79 in the first round. He finished up his day with a seven-over-par 78 in the second round.
CJ Haukom is tied for 36th after the first day of competition with a 16-over-par 158 (79-79).
Junior
Drew Trautman finished up his first two rounds tied in 39th with an 18-over-par 160 (79-81).
The final round of the Jackrabbit Invite will begin Tuesday morning with a shotgun start.
